CSN Bay Area names Chris Olivere News Director

Comcast
SportsNet Bay Area hired Chris Olivere as news director for the regional sports
network featuring the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Golden State
Warriors, San Jose Sharks, San Jose SaberCats and San Jose Earthquakes.
Olivere
will play a key role in establishing Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s
locally-produced daily newscasts and sports-talk programming with an emphasis
on Northern California sports, scheduled to
launch in the spring of 2009. He will be responsible for the network’s
day-to-day news operation and manage the entire news staff, including talent, photographers,
editors and producers. Olivere will also oversee all pre- and post-game
programming for the network.
A 20-year
veteran of sports television, Olivere comes to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area from
The MountainWest Sports Network The Mtn. where he served as news director and
assignment manager during the past two years.

brings to our network over two decades of national and local sports news
programming experience and is one of the most accomplished news directors and
producers in the television industry,” said Griggs. “We are very
fortunate to have someone of Chris’s significant experience and knowledge overseeing
our news operation. I am confident that under his leadership and vision,
our news division will become the ultimate source for Northern
California sports fans for up to the minute news, analysis and
debate on their hometown teams.”
Olivere

Following
the construction of its 32,000 square foot state-of-the-art studio, 24-hour
newsroom, HD production facilities, and office space at 370 3rd Street in San
Francisco, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area will introduce Northern California’s premier live daily sports news and
analysis early next year. In addition to its extensive HD game schedule,
each day Comcast SportsNet Bay Area will present over three hours of live,
locally-produced, original HD sports programming with news, features, debate,
scores and more from all corners of the Bay Area. Show titles and hosts
will be announced at a later date, along with a detailed programming schedule.
Over the
course of his career, Olivere took part in the launch of four networks,
including Fox Sports News, The Golf Channel, and NewSport, as well as The Mtn.,
where his main role was establishing newsrooms and assignment desks.
Olivere started his career in 1988 as a desk assistant for WHYY-TV in Wilmington, Delaware,
and was eventually promoted to producing newscasts. In addition, he was a
producer for The Golf Channel’s signature shows, Golf Talk Live and Golf
Academy Live.
Olivere
graduated from the University
of Delaware with degrees
in Communications and English Journalism. He and his wife Liv reside in Millbrae, California.
