NAB 2016: Avid Integrates Aspera FASP

IBM announced that Avid has integrated Aspera FASP high-speed transfer technology with Avid Interplay | MAM to easily and securely move large media assets globally to and from any location and storage type with greater speed and reliability for coordinated multi-site content creation, management, and distribution.

Aspera_IBM_draftsAvid addresses the production needs of all creative industries, ranging from industry-leading creative tools, to ingest, collaboration, and management systems, and intelligent media storage, and multiplatform delivery solutions. A cornerstone of Avid’s broad offerings is Interplay | MAM, a powerful, highly scalable, and fully customizable media asset management solution trusted by top broadcast, news, and post-production facilities. In order to cater to worldwide audiences who demand faster access to higher quality content, Avid integrated Aspera FASP high-speed transfer to enable more complex and geographically dispersed production workflows.

Avid customers rely on Interplay | MAM to make production and archived assets stored across multiple local and remote systems accessible to every in-house and remote contributor, an essential requirement for organizations to achieve success in an ever-changing media landscape. For large media transfers over wide area networks between systems and contributors located hundreds or thousands of miles apart, Avid needed a joint partner solution to deliver the best available file transfer performance to meet the time-critical demands of its customers. By enabling Interplay | MAM with the new high-speed Aspera File Transfer Integration kit, Avid customers can connect their existing or new Aspera Enterprise Server or Point-to-Point Clients and easily extend high-speed file transfer capabilities to any BPM process running within the Interplay | MAM orchestration engine.

The deep API-based integration ensures the entire rich set of high-speed file transfer features available with Aspera FASP are supported and can be used directly within Interplay | MAM for a completely seamless user experience. Within the MediaCentral | UX user interface, the common user experience of the Avid MediaCentral Platform, users can initiate high-speed file transfers between local and remote systems accessible to in-house and remote contributors, or initiate an Interplay | MAM Export to transfer any MAM asset to a target system. End users or operators can easily monitor any Aspera transfer jobs in MediaCentral | UX. All Aspera encryption, privacy and bandwidth control capabilities are fully supported.

“Given the superior performance and results Avid has experienced with prior Aspera FASP use cases, we felt this integration would enable Interplay | MAM to allow customers to seamlessly move their media assets quickly and reliably without fail,” said Dana Ruzicka, vice president and chief product officer at Avid. “With Aspera, we gain a great deal of confidence that our customers can quickly move media assets globally with little-to-no interruption in their workflow.”

“Avid’s customers are top broadcast, news, and post-production facilities that operate on tight deadlines and need to exchange and distribute content immediately, without delay,” said John Wastcoat, Aspera VP of business development. “Aspera makes life a little easier for them by alleviating the pain points experienced with traditional transfer protocols – namely speed and reliability problems – and providing fast, dependable and highly secure transfers of large media files.”
