IBC 2016: Evertz Showcases Facility 2020, Highlights UHD and HDR

The broadcast facility continues to evolve to meet the needs of the rapidly changing media landscape. With broadcasters deploying IP throughout their facility, a paradigm shift will be realised on how assets and resources are deployed and workflows are managed. Broadcasters will leverage IP and virtualization to create facilities that are flexible, agile, and efficient. At IBC 2016, Evertz will showcase the Facility 2020, a Software Defined Data Center for Broadcasters on Stand 1.D31.

Evertz leverages its Software Defined Video Networking (SDVN) infrastructure and orchestration software to enable customers to take a data center approach to their facility where they can virtualise processes and services on generic processing nodes and blades.  This shift from discrete and dedicated hardware infrastructure to one where software processes are ‘spun up’ and ‘spun down’ to create a heterogeneous infrastructure is extremely appealing to end users.

With Evertz’ new evEDGET, a Software Defined Compute and Routing platform, broadcasters can use modular compute blades to provide dynamic video/audio/metadata processing that includes: media gateways (for formats such as SMPTE RDD 37, SMPTE-2022-6, NDI, RFC 4175, and AES67); multi-viewing; and video/audio conversion and processing.

Evertz’ MAGNUM SDVN, VistaLINK, and new inSITE, a distributed big data logging and analytics platform, enables the Facility 2020 to use on and off-premise cloud-based compute for virtualization, path finding, resource management, and analytics to create and deliver content more efficiently and cost-effectively.

At IBC 2016, Evertz also will be highlighting a full range of products and features that help broadcasters to deliver UHD with HDR. For production, Evertz’ DreamCatcher, the platform of choice for UHD IP-Based replay, will demonstrate new features and capabilities which allow for UHD (with HDR and HFR) to be used in the production environment.

Both Evertz’ Software Defined Video Networking (SDVN) and the new 12G-SDI products enable distribution of uncompressed UHD over both IP (using SMPTE RDD 37) and SDI.

Evertz will also introduce new 12G-SDI routers, 12G-SDI IP gateways, and conversion and processing products.  For UHD integrated channel playout with HDR, Evertz will demonstrate OvertureRT LIVE-UHD (OVRT-LIVE-UHD) which offers complete channel playout with support for live inputs and advanced channel branding on new UHD channels. The new 3482TXE-HEVC provides high density HEVC encoding for the distribution of UHD with HDR signals to the end user.
