DPA Microphones Gears Products Toward Sports Applications

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome DPA Microphones as a corporate sponsor. The leading Danish manufacturer of high-quality condenser-microphone solutions for professional applications aims to provide its customers the finest possible solutions for all its markets. The company specializes in extremely durable miniature microphones suited for all types of sports applications.

dpa_logoWhen it comes to the design process, DPA takes no shortcuts. Nor does the company compromise on its manufacturing process, which is done at its factory in Denmark. As a result, DPA’s products are globally praised for exceptional clarity and transparency, unparalleled specifications, supreme reliability, and, above all, pure, uncolored, and undistorted sound.

“DPA Microphones became an SVG sponsor in order to get closer to the users who have been big adopters of our products,” says Christopher Spahr, VP of marketing. “Our body-worn, headset, and production microphones have all been used in various applications from the World Cup to auto racing to the NFL and by many different sports networks, including Fox Sports, NBC Sports, ESPN, and Sky Sports.

“We would like to interact more closely with these users to find out how they are using our mics, what we can improve for them, and what types of things they might need in the future when it comes to microphones,” he continues. “We want to make sure that we’re manufacturing the right types of products for their specific needs. We’re also hoping to educate the SVG membership about the importance of using the right tools to capture audio correctly at the source and how much this can improve things for them down the production stream.”

DPA microphones were used during the 2016 Rolex 24 Car Endurance Race at Daytona International Speedway. Audio mixer Rick Alexander deployed DPA’s d:screet 4071 miniature, d:dicate 4017B shotgun, and d:screet 4098 supercardioid microphones to capture dialogue for a promotional documentary about the new Ford GT. He relied on the d:dicate 4017B to capture the unique sounds of the pit row, filming the drivers while they were revving their engines. He also mounted the d:screet 4071 and d:screet 4098 mics in pit row and, in addition, used the mics during an interview with the owner of the Ford GT team right outside the garage.

DPA microphones were also used during Utah State University football games. NCAA football referees relied on the d:screet Necklace microphone to stay in communication with each other on the field. The d:screet Necklace replaced the shotgun lavalier mics previously used and combated feedback, wind, and loud cheering to deliver clear, undistorted sound.
