SVG Summit: Cloud Workshop To Highlight IMG/Premier League, MLBN/NHLN, and NBC Sports Workflows

After drawing a standing-room–only crowd in its debut last year, the Cloud Workshop: Production & MAM Workflows returns to the SVG Summit on Dec. 12. This year’s edition will dive deep into virtualized workflows used by IMG for the Premier League, MLB Network and NHL Network, and NBC Sports. This trio of case studies will be followed by a panel titled “Tech in the Clouds, Workflow on the Ground: Best Practices in the Cloud.” Held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday Dec. 12, this seminar is open to all SVG Summit attendees.

Here is a look at the full Cloud Workshop agenda:

10:00 – 10:20 a.m.: Case Study: The Premier League Archive
With the rebrand at the start of this season and a new contract term for broadcasters, the Premier League commissioned its production partners at IMG to create a “One Portal” platform to enable its global broadcasters to access match information, news content, and the back catalogue of match footage and programming from the archive. Over a period of four months, IMG ported 500 TB of broadcast-quality match footage to a cloud-hosted instance of the Imagen Enterprise Video Platform, managing replication to strategic locations in Sao Paolo, Singapore, Dublin, and L.A. to rapidly serve footage in high-demand production through elegant search interfaces with built-in features of clipping, partial file restore, accelerated downloads, and volume allowances. Discover challenges in achieving a project of this scale in a narrow time frame and how these were overcome.
Presenters:
Tom Barnes, IMG, VP, Sports Video Archive
Tom Blake, Imagen, CEO

10:20 – 10:40 a.m.: DIAMOND On Ice Case Study: MLB Network, NHL Network Unite in the Cloud
A discussion of how the DIAMOND On ICE Platform has expanded this NHL season to meet the requests of NHL Operations for providing access to live game-video feeds and searchable data. Enabling the end users to view on mobile devices, add metadata tags, create clips and collections, and share that content with others. Custom reporting of events has also been developed, permitting direct viewing of video in the cloud.
