Over the past three years, NEP Australia has purchased around 80 Creamsource Minis via Outsight’s authorised reseller, Barbizon.

“We were looking for a new version of portable light, with a lower running cost for the same output in an LED variation,” says Jay Dobbin, Senior Technical Manager, NEP Australia. “The Minis have the equivalent of 400 watt output but only draw 155 watts, so they are quite energy efficient. And the ability to run off standard V-lock batteries makes them completely portable in the field.”

NEP Australia’s team also wanted lights that would be versatile regardless of conditions, and quick and easy to set up and pack down.

“The Minis are used in lots of different sports productions, predominantly live, outdoor sports coverage, but also in live outdoor studio set-ups,” says Jay. “We can’t control the weather, so the fact that they are weather resistant is a big plus. The brightness and ‘punch’ in different outdoor light conditions was also very important for side-line commentary, and the output is strong enough be used as fill lighting in daylight as well as under strong stadium lighting. They have also cut down our set-up and dismantle time significantly.”

The Creamsource range is renowned for its robustness and reliability, something that Jay attests to: “Despite intensive use I can’t think of a lamp that has had a fault in three years of using them,” he says.
