Bernie Sweeney, CBS Sports Audio Assistant, Dead at 71

Longtime CBS Sports audio assistant Bernie Sweeney died at the age of 71 this week after battling pancreatic cancer. He started at CBS in 1965 (in the mailroom, working alongside Barry Manilow) and worked for the network for 49 years before ending his career in 2014.

Sweeney was a mainstay at CBS Sports, including the biggest shows. His long-time career was highlighted by working on countless Masters, Final Four tournaments, Super Bowls, and the U.S. Open tennis tournament.

A mass for Sweeney will be held on Friday in Port St. Lucie.
