University of Charleston Upgrades Innovation Center With Daktronics Video, Scoring System

Daktronics was asked by the University of Charleston to design, manufacture, and install a new LED video display for the Russell and Martha Wehrle Innovation Center on campus in Charleston, West Virginia.

“Daktronics has been very professional in providing detailed information and technical advice relative to setting up a video board, scoreboard and sound system that will promote a high-quality fan experience at the University of Charleston,” says Gary Boyd, Director of Facilities and Services at the university. “The coordination and cooperation of the Daktronics team is second to none. We are extremely pleased to have the top-of-the-line 6-millimeter video boards paired with the impressive JBL speakers at the core of our system. Daktronics ability to provide a quality system at a competitive price along with technical support and a very strong warranty is extremely impressive and appreciated.”

The display measures approximately 9 feet high by 15 feet wide and features 6-millimeter line spacing to provide excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility. It features variable content zoning which allows the display to show one large image or to be separated into multiple zones. These zones can show any combination of live video, instant replay, statistic and scoring information, animations and graphics, and sponsorship messages.

The project also includes a Daktronics fixed-digit scoreboard providing all the statistics and information fans have come to expect for each sport. Two 8-foot backlit scorer’s tables were also provided to highlight sponsors throughout games.

“We are very excited to have added this new display to the Russell & Martha Wehrle Innovation Center,” says John Francois, Daktronics Sales Representative. “This facility is state-of-the-art and the University of Charleston has shown the commitment to maximizing the facility’s potential for their students, student-athletes, faculty, staff, and the community.”

In addition to the equipment installation, the University of Charleston also received a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services. This content will consist of any mixture of sponsorship messages, crowd prompts, headshots, game opens and venue announcements at the request of the university.

Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
