Intelsat Provides Transmission Services for Multitude of Sports Events

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome Intelsat as a corporate sponsor. Headquartered in Luxembourg, Intelsat is a leading provider of integrated satellite services worldwide and operator of the world’s first Globalized Network.

Founded in 1964, Intelsat has provided transmission services for milestone events, including enabling live television coverage of every Olympics since 1968. The company supplies video, data, and voice connectivity for leading media and communications companies, internet-service providers, and government organizations.

“Watching sports has a way of bringing people together, which makes partnering with Sports Video Group a logical and strategic move for Intelsat. We are committed to connecting people all over the world using our Globalized Network and streamlining the work flow of our customers, with services such as IntelsatOne Prism, an IP media satellite platform primarily used for sporting events,” says Peter Ostapiuk, head of media product services. “IntelsatOne Prism delivers video, voice, internet, and data for remote-production connectivity, a capability that has already proved to be very advantageous to the sports-broadcasting community from a cost and service perspective.

“For example, Prism has supported multiple sporting events, like Luke Aikens Free Fall from an airplane, professional golf in Calgary, and the eight-day Amgen Bike Tour of California,” he continues. “For the bike tour, PSSI Global Services used IntelsatOne Prism to successfully broadcast multiple television, voice, and internet feeds from a single managed platform. The end result? Minimal advance preparation time, a decrease in engineering resources onsite, and increased cost-effectiveness.”

Intelsat’s terrestrial network of eight strategically located teleports and more than 36,000 miles of leased fiber complements a global fleet of approximately 50 satellites, covering 99% of the world’s population. Intelsat’s Globalized Network serves customers across nearly 200 countries and territories. Thousands of organizations serving billions of people worldwide rely on Intelsat to provide ubiquitous broadband connectivity, multiformat video broadcasting, secure satellite communications, and seamless mobility services.

During the 10th-anniversary edition of the Amgen Tour of California in 2015, Intelsat supported the communications needs of world-feed–provider PSSI Global Services with its robust IntelsatOne Prism system, dramatically increasing the power, flexibility, and success rate for connectivity, not only for multiple audio/video productions but for other key race activities as well.

PSSI has also used Prism to provide video, phone connectivity, and internet services to successfully broadcast the August 2016 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open LPGA Tour in Calgary, as well as the 2016 live television coverage of skydiver Luke Aikins. With Prism, PSSI was able to provide multiple VoIP lines and internet connectivity to the onsite personnel. And, since the IntelsatOne Prism platform offers dedicated and guaranteed megabit service, they didn’t have to worry about whether cellphones would work or be concerned about congestion and reliability.
