BroadcastAsia 2017: TVU Networks Showcases Latest IP-Video Offerings

At the BroadcastAsia Exhibition & Conference this week, TVU Networks will highlight the latest developments in the company’s IP-based ecosystem of hardware and software products, workflows and services for live video acquisition, production, management and distribution. TVU’s new cloud-based solutions are designed to help broadcasters manage video content from anywhere from one interface.

TVU will show new solutions for the first time in Asia during the show. The company will demonstrate within its reseller’s booth, Singapore-based Magna Systems & Engineering, (Booth 4S3-05). BroadcastAsia is held at Suntec Singapore and runs from May 23-25.

The focus of the TVU ecosystem is more efficient broadcast operations through automation and integration of an IP-based software-defined video workflow. The TVU video ecosystem encompasses all areas of production, from acquisition to management to distribution.

Making their BroadcastAsia debut will also be the TVU One mobile cellular transmitter featuring HEVC compression; TVU Producer, a web-based application for producing live content for social media; version 3.0 of the company’s cloud-based centralized management solution, TVU Command Center; TVU integration with the Associated Press’ AP ENPS news production system; version 3.0 of TVU’s RPS (Remote Production System) for remote synchronized multi-camera production with frame accurate sync and new TVU Router, which delivers over 200Mbps of reliable, stable and high-speed Internet connectivity using a cellular infrastructure and mobile Internet access point.

TVU One with HEVC is the company’s flagship live mobile IP newsgathering transmitter that delivers high-quality IP video transmission. TVU One with HEVC cellular mobile solution uses both HEVC video compression and TVU’s patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm to transmit HD quality video with half-second latency. By utilizing the H.265 compression standard, TVU One uses less data and generates less overhead leading to lower operational costs while delivering transmission reliability. TVU One with HEVC is available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple connections, including cellular, microwave, satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.

TVU Command Center provides control of all your video acquisition, production, management and distribution from anywhere using a web interface. Command Center features a robust set of tools for the management of live video transmitters and receivers, the switching, routing and distribution of live video feeds, GPS location tracking of live transmitters in the field, dashboard analytics and more. TVU Command Center also features integrated TVU Alert and TVU Producer.

TVU Producer was designed to allow anyone to produce professional quality live-video for the web regardless of their level of experience. Running on the TVU Transceiver, TVU Producer enables broadcasters to easily produce live video content to major social media platforms. Producer is integrated with Facebook Live, YouTube Live and Periscope and features a simple, easy-to-use Web interface.

With TVU Producer, a station’s digital producer can work within the same broadcast workflow as the traditional TV producer. Users can seamlessly switch between incoming TVU transmitter sources, SDI inputs and uploaded video slate sources, add a graphic overlay, and stream the produced output to different web-based platforms.

TVU offers an Open API for its family of video solutions, allowing broadcasters to take advantage of the benefits of software defined workflows. TVU’s Open API will integrate with other software platforms and supporting key workflow components, such as metadata and software automation. Several major partners have integrated with TVU’s Open API including Panasonic, Associated Press, Bitcentral and others.

TVU and the Associated Press (AP) have jointly developed an integrated newsroom video content acquisition workflow developed through a technology partnership and using TVU’s Open API. The new metadata-based workflow streamlines the direct linking of media content to specific news story assignments at the point of acquisition. The TVU Alert and AP ENPS integration automates and accelerates the transfer and ingest of the linked content to the studio and within newsroom production solutions.

The new workflow is designed to improve the efficiency and speed of news content acquisition through automation and a reduction in the need for manual intervention, while also providing greater flexibility TVU Router is a portable Internet access point that can provide over 200Mbps of secure, reliable, high-speed and untethered Internet connectivity at any time and from any place using a wireless cellular infrastructure.

With Router, users can transfer and receive files, stream video, search the web, or utilize any IP connected device or service to pass data. For current TVUPack and TVU One customers, TVU Router is an available software option.

TVU Router supports Panasonic’s line of AVC-ULTRA camcorders and P2 Cast cloud-based news production system. Router significantly enhances the streaming capabilities of the AVC-ULTRA camcorders by creating a secure, reliable and high-speed broadband connection. TVU Router enables the AVC-ULTRA camcorders to stream live video or file-based live video over IP, which would prove challenging if not impossible, if the user relied solely on the camera’s remote streaming capabilities.

TVU’s Remote Production System (RPS) delivers a cost-effective alternative for live remote, synchronized, multi-camera news and sports production with frame accurate synchronization. RPS leverages a broadcaster’s existing studio control room staff, equipment, and a public Internet connection from the field. With TVU RPS, a broadcaster can achieve on-location live production without the need to deploy expensive production trucks, dedicated fiber or large on-site production crews.
