Stats Perform’s PressBox Graphics Supports University of Memphis’ Social Media Efforts

The University of Memphis men’s basketball team had an incredible season this year, winning 12 of their last 14 games to enter the NCAA March Madness Tournament. With a hot streak like that they generated a lot of fan interest.

Throughout the course of the season, the Memphis basketball social media team was able keep up with extraordinary demand for content through their partnership with Stats Perform by utilizing the product PressBox Graphics – a web-based platform that allows users to enhance their visual communication strategy – to capture their fans’ attention across digital platforms through engaging, scalable, data-led graphics.

The University of Memphis Athletic Department aims to keep their fans informed of the achievements made by their student athletes through the use of social media.  They also work to strategically leverage their social media presence to get the attention of donors and potential recruits. PressBox Graphics allowed them to further these goals and resulted in a very successful social media campaign.

The Challenge:

The challenge to the University comes from the amount of content required to fill a social media calendar with compelling visuals, even around just one sport.  When posting on social media it is key to capitalise on the event and post as quickly as possible but editing photos and manually adding player or team data can tie up resources, take up valuable time and result in stale postings. The team needs to be the first out with the content to make the most impact.

How Did It Work?

The reason ‘why’ the University of Memphis Athletic Department needed to produce compelling graphics quickly and efficiently for social media was clear, but the ‘how’ would require them to make a simple change. Understanding the challenge at hand, the Athletic Department looked to Stats Perform for the right tools.  With PressBox Graphics they were able to access a selection of brilliantly designed phots and seamlessly add up-to-the-minute game data for visuals that stand out when posted online.  Having access to accurate and up to date data is crucial when building visual content for in-game coverage as fans are more likely to stop scrolling and engage with a post.  The major benefits of using PressBox Graphics was that it incorporated the University of Memphis branding as well as eliminated the need to edit or reformat pictures, saving the department valuable time and resources.

“To have player stats auto-populate into our images and have consistent formatting was extremely helpful,” says Michael Schroeder – University of Memphis Athletics Department. “The functionality PressBox Graphics provided to automatically cut out the background of pictures was also a game-changer.”

Results:

The University of Memphis Athletics Department faced a difficult challenge: producing engaging visuals for social media quickly and efficiently.  Changing the process of how they prepare the images they post by running them through PressBox Graphics’ easy to use application allowed the Department to keep up with the stronger demand for on brand visual content while other demands on staff members were increasing, as the tournament was played.

Creating compelling visuals through PressBox Graphics allowed the Athletic Department to produce visuals at an unparalleled speed. PressBox Graphics helped streamline the content creation in their organization and provided multiple design templates that incorporate University of Memphis branding and fit their unique needs.

Key moments through a busy season always happen unexpectedly and your social team needs to react quickly to cover them. With PressBox Graphics an Athletic Department can capitalize on moments that matter and leverage their social media presence to meet their objectives.
