UK's Digital Television Signal To Be Shifted To Make Way For 5g Mobile Broadband

www.telegraph.co.uk reports that Freeview television signals will be shifted to make way for 5G mobile broadband, Ofcom said today, as it seeks to avoid a data “capacity crunch” caused by soaring demand from smartphones and tablets.

It will mean broadcasters will have to move to the 600MHz band, but not until 2018 at the earliest. Ofcom insisted the “vast majority” of viewers only need to retune their existing equipment as a result of the change, although it admitted a “small minority” will need a new rooftop aerial
