Global Crossing Genesis Solutions Expands into Latin America

IP solutions provider Global Crossing has expanded its Genesis Solutions IP network into Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, and the Caribbean region.

“The Latin American region represents a vast market opportunity for sports, entertainment and event programming,” says Mike Antonovich, managing director of Global Crossing Genesis Solutions.  “We’re excited to offer solutions that support both standard- and high-definition video programming from points all over the globe to Latin America, as well as Latin American-based programming out to the rest of the world.”

As Latin America prepares to host the 2011 Pan American games in Guadalajara, Mexico; the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil; and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro; the HD TV subscriber market is experiencing rapid growth in this part of the world.  According to Dataxis, a global market research company focused on the television, cable and satellite industries, the number of HD television subscribers in Latin America grew from 215,000 in 2009 to more than 3,000,000 in 2010, a growth rate of 1,327%.  Global Crossing Genesis Solutions sees this as a valuable growth market for its global network.

Global Crossing Genesis Solutions is leveraging Global Crossing’s existing Latin American network to provide managed media solutions to broadcasters and programmers.  In addition, Global Crossing’s existing 15 data centers in the region, customer-centric managed services, and fully redundant network ring around Latin America allows Global Crossing Genesis Solutions to offer a full range of reliable media solutions to support occasional-use, special-events, and full-time video distribution, including the leveraging of data centers for managed video play out services and streaming applications.

Global Crossing Genesis Solutions uses a proprietary customer interface called uCommand/IRIS, which provides an “on-demand” capability that gives customers direct access and control over their global media distribution network and enables self-provisioning and monitoring of all aspects of their transmission services.
