Howard Cosell’s Grandson Impersonated Him During Tim McCarver’s Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame Acceptance Speech

During his Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame acceptance speech last week, legendary baseball announcer Tim McCarver welcomed up to the stage Colin Cosell, the grandson of Howard Cosell, who proceeded to do a spot-on impersonation of his iconic grandfather.

It was a fitting full-circle moment for McCarver who got his first big national break behind the mic when he was added as a last-minute replacement at the 1985 World Series after Howard Cosell was dropped from the booth following controversy surrounding a book he had written.

McCarver’s spot in the broadcast booth at the Fall Classic was one that he wouldn’t relinquish until his retirement from national broadcasting in 2014. He went on to become one of the most accomplished baseball broadcasters of all time, calling 24 World Series and enjoying a stretch of 29 consecutive MLB Postseasons. He is the only baseball analyst in history to work for all four major television networks (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX).
