WAPA-TV in San Juan PR used MRC and Link technology to make television history by providing, for the first time, complete live race coverage of the 10th Annual World's Best 10K Road Race. Production partner HyDra Comm and RGB Broadcast used MRC and Link communications equipment exclusively to deliver flawless coverage from start to finish. Until this year race coverage was limited to 50% of the course at best.

"The event was a great success," said José Guerra, Chief Engineer of WAPA TV. "We could give the viewers the feeling of being a part of this race. We were there and were able to transmit the emotion to the viewers as well. This definitely would not have been possible without the MRC Broadcast team's support and engagement.

Live feeds from two LINK camera radios, an L1103 and the new L1503, plus MRC high-gain omni antennas were sent back to two LINK receivers via a combination of MRC high-gain sector antennas installed at a temporary antenna structure near the mid-point of the race course. From there, the video was backhauled to the studio via two 7 GHz MRC tripod-mounted portable Strata transmitters.

"We made history with the 10K-2008 transmission," explains Wilfredo Martinez, President of Hydra Comm. "At the end of the event there was a euphoric feeling because of the transmission standard gained on this show."

"The MRC equipment was flawless" added Heriberto Roque of RGB Broadcast, MRC's VAR in Puerto Rico, "we provided live coverage for both the elite men's and women's runners for the duration of the race. From the starting line to the finish line, we broadcast live simultaneously from the back of two vehicles that rode in front of the runners throughout the course."
