John Leach, director of game operations for the Charlotte Bobcats Arena, home of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats and WNBA's Charlotte Sting, says his scoreboard production videos should be “compelling enough to capture attention.” With the help of four Ikegami cameras and a Daktronics LED scoreboard he and his team (a full time director, manager, coordinator and associate producer) do just that. "We want to ensure that the NBA brand is represented on the scoreboard in the best way possible," says Leach. The Bobcats use one wireless roaming camera and a camera located on each baseline to capture the action. The fourth camera is high camera located on the Scoreboard platform. The Charlotte Bobcats scoreboard is HD capable and measures 38-feet high by 36-feet wide and most content is acquired and displayed in SD. Team and player introduction packages, however, are shown in HD. Using Daktronics Venus 7000 marquee display controller gives operators more adaptability for displaying videos on screens and on video boards. They also have Fascia displays on the upper and lower levels of the arena. A unique feature of the scoreboard is a 3D backlit diorama of the Charlotte skyline at the top of the screen complete with models of buildings. A projection system behind the models then changes from night to day or has airplanes and fireworks. This feature makes the Bobcats scoreboard one of the most dynamic in the NBA.
