NESN, which broadcasts the Boston Red Sox, will get into spring training with NMT’s DX7 truck, outfitted with six Sony BVP-900 hard cameras and three Sony BVP-950 handheld cameras complete with Fujinon lenses. Mike Narracci, NESN senior coordinating director shared his thoughts on the upcoming season with SVG Editorial Assistant Andrew Lippe. The Red Sox ballpark is located just outside of Ft. Myers, FL, in the City of Palms Park. The Sox first home pre-season game is Feb. 28 against the Minnesota Twins.
How many cameras do you usually use during a Sox spring training game?
We will use six hard cameras and use six replay cameras. In the booth we’ll have play by play announcer Don Orsillo, and color analyst Jerry Remy while on the field we have Tina Cervasio who interviews the players and coaches in the Red Sox dugout including Manager Terry Francona and Pitching Coach John Farrell.
How many games is NESN covering for spring training? Are any of the games in HD?
This year we are doing both Red Sox home and away games, covering nine home games and one road game. Spring training games are broadcast only in standard definition. But HD is available during every game in the regular season.
How big is your crew during spring training?
We have 18 people working on a spring training game. Most of the crew goes down to Florida for the winter.
How has the arrival of Daisuke Matsuzaka impacted production?
On March 2 our partner NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) will take our feed and supplement it with their own feed and televise his first innings in the majors.
