Harris Corporation will showcase many new technologies at NAB this year including demonstrating their expanded range of multiviewers, introducing the Harris ZX5000 transmitter for HD Radio and analog FM broadcasters and showcasing its latest advancements in server system technology and storage protection.

Harris Corporation will showcase its expanded range of multiviewers at the 2008 NAB convention in booth N2502. The demonstrations will include products from Zandar Technologies, which Harris acquired in November 2007. Harris will be demonstrating a wide selection of multiviewers from its new portfolio at the show. The Harris offering includes the award-winning CENTRIO multiviewer, the Zandar Predator II multiviewer, the Zandar QS100HD Quad Card, and the Z-Controller.

"Harris Corporation's broad range of multi-image display processors provides best-in-class monitoring that has been proven repeatedly in a number of mission-critical customer applications," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "By combining the Zandar portfolio with the Harris multiviewer range, we are able to provide flexible and scalable solutions that are leading the way in multiviewer technology."

Harris Corporation will also extend its range of multiplatform delivery solutions with the introduction of the world's first Mobile Pedestrian Handheld (MPH) ready digital exciter at the 2008 NAB convention.

"The Harris MPH ready exciter is designed to provide today's multimedia broadcaster with one hardware platform capable of multiple modulation schemes," said Thorsteinson. "As the only MPH ready exciter on the market, this platform can be used by broadcasters today to deliver MPH content to various mobile and video devices — and to deliver standard and HDTV programming to traditional TV sets."

Harris Corporation will also introduce the Harris ZX5000 transmitter for HD Radio and analog FM broadcasters at the NAB convention. The ZX5000 transmitter is the latest entry in the company's popular range of ZX transmitters, now comprising five models ranging from 500 watts to 5 kW of power.

The Harris ZX5000 offers an unprecedented compact size for a 5 kW transmitter for both analog FM and HD Radio broadcasting and comes in a single-rack solution with an exciter and signal processing gear. As with other ZX transmitters, the ZX5000 supports tri-mode operation with on-the-fly switching between analog FM operation, HD Radio digital-only operation, or FM/HD Radio common amplification broadcasting.

"The Harris ZX5000 satisfies broadcaster demand for a compact, high-performance transmitter in the 5 kW power range for both FM and HD Radio operation, and offers a cost-effective point of entry to HD Radio broadcasting for medium-to-large market broadcasters worldwide," said Tim Thorsteinson. "Large market stations have taken notice of ZX transmitters as reliable back-ups for high-power transmitters, and the higher power level of the ZX5000 builds on that reputation for large and major market broadcasters."

Finally, Harris Corporation will showcase its latest advancements in server system technology and SAN-based fault tolerance as the new NEXIO AMP media platform and Intrinsic Mirroring technology make their North American debut at the 2008 NAB convention.

NEXIO server technology forms a core component of Harris channel playout solutions for today's broadcast operations. Harris NEXIO AMP pairs a high-performance, HD/SD server architecture with best-in-class content protection. Among the platform enhancements on display at NAB2008 will be integrated codec support for the Panasonic AVC-Intra and Sony XDCAM HD 35/50 formats, file-based workflow support for GXF, MXF, Panasonic P2, AVC-Intra and Sony XDCAM HD 35/50 files, support for AFD (Active Format Descriptor), which optimizes video aspect ratio conversion for broadcasters migrating to HD, expanded timecode capability and closed captioning as file capability.

Visitors to the Harris booth will also be introduced to the patent-pending Intrinsic Mirroring technology, the latest advance in NEXIO storage protection for all SAN-based NEXIO systems. This software-based option, which is now available, leverages the powerful, Emmy-winning RAIDsoft software RAID technology that is inherent in Fibre Channel connected NEXIO I/O nodes.

Intrinsic Mirroring mirrors all content onto two identical SANs simultaneously during the ingest process without the need to replicate or copy the content. Even content that is brought in as a file transfer or is created as part of an editing operation is immediately and simultaneously mirrored to the two SANs. Intrinsic Mirroring works with RAIDsoft to provide 100 percent bandwidth capacity even if one side of the mirrored storage system fails, enabling a platform architecture with no single point of failure.

"The advanced architecture of NEXIO AMP breaks new ground for server feature sets and fault tolerance, resulting in a best-of-breed solution that customers can build their business around with confidence," said Thorsteinson. "At NAB2008, NEXIO will once again demonstrate why it is a pre-eminent brand of video server, and why new enhancements such as integrated media applications and Intrinsic Mirroring establish NEXIO AMP as the logical first choice for all channel playout applications — as well as news and sports production."
