The Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switcher from Snell & Wilcox is making inroads into the sports market, and the company hopes a litany of new features debuting at NAB will continue momentum gains.

Enhancements include new DVE capabilities, a quadrupling of the system’s clip stores, enhanced third-party integration capabilities, VDCP control interfacing, and a series of new auxiliary panels.

According to the company, IMPAKT, Kahuna’s integrated 3D DVE effects option, has new DVE models as well as a revolutionary new technology called Fluid Effects to dramatically enhance creativity and transition power. Fluid Effects enables live video to be wrapped onto virtually any 3D model without rendering in an external device. And IMPAKT DVE Version 4 adds film effects, global lighting, flag waves, and window-blind effects to its portfolio.

Meanwhile, clip-store memory is expanded and can hold up to 200 seconds of video clips and audio content in each M/E, roughly 8,000 frames in SD and 2,000 frames in HD. And third-party control interfaces are being improved, including VDCP interfaces for such server lines as EVS XT[2] and Thomson Grass Valley K2.
