Motorola
will be on the NAB show floor with a whole new line of products that enable HD.
“We are introducing the concept of ‘an all-IP headend,’” says Senior Marketing
Director Martin Stein. “Our newest generation of HD encoders allows the highest
quality at economical bitrates.”
The
SE-5100/5150 Series HD/SD platform combines receiver functions with advanced
encoding technology to deliver CBR and VBR video services at the lowest bitrates.
SE-5100/5150 Series is a real-time high-definition and standard-definition AVC
video encoder that includes selectable HD or SD software, an RF input, four
Ethernet ports, digital turnaround for MPEG-2 inputs, motion-compensated noise
reduction in SD, and a Web-browser interface.
The
receiver is designed to dramatically enhance headend architectures, reduce box
count, and simplify signal routing and redundancy support. Because the encoders
have RF input, service providers can receive NTSC or ATSC content and directly
convert it to MPEG-4 AVC. Additionally, the platform offers a low-resolution–proxy
output stream for program-guide or monitoring applications. According to Stein,
this secondary output (in addition to the high-quality HD output) in the form
of a lower-resolution stream (200-400 kbps) allows the same content feed to be
used for both high-quality HD and low-bitrate streaming.
