At NAB 2008, IBM and its partners will demonstrate a suite of HD sports systems supporting pre-production, production, post-production, and preservation and archive activities. IBM’s Media Hub Solution Framework provides an infrastructure based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and is designed to manage the increasing complexity of running a content-based business from the point of creation to the distribution of digital content.

Media Hub provides media-based routing to enable end-to-end workflows connecting business and content systems. It connects a range of partner applications from planning and business rights management through editing, transcoding, watermarking, and asset management to delivery systems for broadcast and broadband, Web, and mobile.

IBM is also tackling HD compression speeds. Broadcast International’s CodecSys video-compression software runs on IBM’s Cell Broadband Engine multi-core processor and the IBM BladeCenter QS21 server.. HD video can be delivered at 3 Mbps (in H.264) instead of 19.4 Mbps (in MPEG-2). CodecSys bundled with BladeCenter QS21 is designed for capturing camera feeds from one location, such as a stadium, and moving it back to the studio.
