Orad Hi-Tec Systems is looking to make lens modification a thing of the past for virtual-graphic–enhancement systems. Making its debut at NAB, the MVP system is expected to be available later this year and will eventually serve as a replacement for the CyberSport system.

“Right now, a lot of graphic-enhancement systems require camera and lens modifications and technical gyrations,” says Shaun Dail, VP, North America sales and marketing. “Orad pioneered the enhancement market 13 years ago, and now we’re jumping to the next level as far as usability.”

MVP is designed to make graphic enhancements easier and cheaper. CyberSport, for example, can be difficult to operate and requires a higher-level technician to keep it running smoothly. And competing systems from companies like Sportvision and PVI can require a team of operators.

“With MVP, most sports [producers] will be able to run virtual graphics from master control,” says Dail. “They won’t need a technician.”

The system uses image-based tracking that requires a few minutes of camera calibration between the camera operator and the MVP operator.
