NewTek, manufacturer of video and 3D animation products, at NAB will offer a look at the company's line of TriCaster portable video production and live virtual set systems, as well as LightWave v9.5 3D and SpeedEDIT, Newtek’s video editor.

Philip Nelson, NewTek Vice President of Sales and Video Marketing, says a goal at NewTek is to drive live, longtail programming. “We’re changing the entire economics of what it costs to do a live show,” he says. “Before the economics, which included renting or buying a production truck, limited what programming made it to air. But for $5,000 to $11,000 you can buy the Tricaster and add supplementary content to the second and third screens. So from a cost perspective it is very low risk.”

Tricaster is a family of video production and live virtual set systems that offer live switching and audio mixing, with output to the Internet. The Tricaster family includes the TriCaster, the TriCaster PRO, the TriCaster PRO FX and the TriCaster STUDIO. Tricaster is the size of a shoebox, and weighs just 10 pounds. TriCaster STUDIO weighs 16 pounds. All Tricaster products allow VCR playback, live streaming, and video editing.

TriCaster, TriCaster PRO and TriCaster PRO FX take in three video inputs while the TriCaster STUDIO can take in six camera inputs.

TriCaster PRO FX and TriCaster STUDIO both support 16:9 streaming video. Both TriCaster PRO FX and TriCaster STUDIO have an integrated character generators and support virtual sets. NewTek’s Tricaster has been used by FoxSports.com and the NBA Developmental League.

NewTek’s SpeedEDIT is Newtek’s video editing software that can edit video streams from SD to HD. SpeedEDIT works smoothly with MPEG-2, AVI, and QuickTime and allows all editing functions to be performed directly on native clips within its unique timeline and storyboard interface. SpeedEDIT performs many functions including ripple edits, clip replacement, segment repositioning, 3D video rotation, color correction, animated titles and Targa sequence playback.

LightWave v9.5, is a major update to its 3D application, LightWave 3D. LightWave v9.5 includes many capabilities including an all-new lighting system with improvements to animation, global illumination, rendering and workflow.

LightWave v9.5 also has many new character animation enhancements that include a new hair and fur system. LightWave v9.5 has a vary of new features that include a new lighting system, a faster sampling system for GI, as well as SDK Support for new GI functions and disk cache.
