Michael Phelps won’t be alone in his quest to dominate the Beijing Olympics as Panasonic, courtesy of a wide ranging deal with the IOC, the Beijing Organizing Committee and Beijing Olympic Broadcasting (BOB) will supply approximately 100 P2 HD and DVCPRO-HD camcorders, 250 DVCPRO-HD, P2HD, and DVCPRO50 studio decks, and more than 1,500 monitors.

The total number of digital electronic devices to be delivered to all 37 venues in Beijing and the seven other cities holding Olympic events is the largest ever and is 1.7 times greater in scale than the equipment delivered for the Athens Olympic Games.

Panasonic will also support the operation of The Games by providing Astrovision spectacular large screen display systems, RAMSA series professional audio systems, large-screen HDTV’s including VIERA Plasma TVs and DIGA DVD recorders. Panasonic’s Astrovision will be used in conjunction with RAMSA in the opening and closing ceremonies to be held at the National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird's Nest, to deliver the highest-quality video and sound to every corner of the stadium. Panasonic will also be supporting a safe and secure Olympic operation for athletes and spectators through the provision of a high picture quality and high sensitivity surveillance camera systems throughout the city of Beijing.

Panasonic supplied broadcasting equipment and maintenance support to the host broadcaster during Barcelona ’92, Atlanta ’96, Nagano ’98, Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002, Athens 2004 and Torino 2006. This year marks the 8th Olympiad for which Panasonic has provided equipment in the official recording format for the Games.

Also, as the top sponsor in the category of Video and Audio Equipment, Panasonic plans to launch Olympic-themed marketing activities worldwide. Panasonic intends to expand local promotion campaigns and partnership with national teams for Beijing 2008. On its Olympic Website, Panasonic will start a global video pod cast campaign called “World Wide Wave” through which visitors can join the wave in Beijing’s National Stadium by uploading an original video to the web for sharing with worldwide spectators.
