Bose, best known for its consumer audio products, is preparing for
takeoff at NAB 2008 with its Aviation Headset X. These cans have been
on the market for some time and are a staple in the cockpit combining a
lightweight, isolating design with noise canceling technology.
Bose officials have made the trek to NAB for the last few years to
research other applications for the headset, with sports a key focus.
How can these be modified and adapted for these markets? Bose's Matt
Ruwe, Product Marketing Manager, Noise Reduction Technology Group,
wants to know and is open to suggestion.
According to Ruwe, the active noise removal sets this headset apart
from traditional broadcast staples that rely on passive noise
reduction. This, combined with a 5-year warranty and a commitment to
servicing what they sell, should make an attractive offering to sports
production pros.
Trying out the Aviation Headset X on the noisy NAB convention floor,
the basic passive function cut a good deal of the clatter. Switching
the active reduction on and off cut out different frequencies to clear
the air. The mic set is focused on midrange to bring out
intelligibility.
There's no set timeframe for the release of a pro sports version of the
Aviation Headset X. Bose seems intent on creating a classic, and is
taking the time to get that right.
