New for NAB 2008, Telecast Fiber Systems has unveiled the SuperBooth application suite, a set of products packaged specifically for mobile sports coverage.

“Especially here in the US, our announcer booths are kind of the nerve centers of our sports broadcasts,” explains Joseph Commare, vice president of marketing and international sales for Telecast. “Now you can carry up one box, plug in two fibers and you’re all done.”

The suite includes the Telecast Adder II audio, intercom and data multiplexer, the DiamondBack 4x4 audio and video multiplexer, the Telethon HD/SDI CWDM Mux and a new dual-redundant AC/DC RackBack power system.

This plug-and-play solution taps into pre-existing fiber infrastructures at sports venues and quickly links in all resources, including HD or SD cameras, monitors, intercom feeds and audio feeds. The suite also has sufficient bandwidth to accommodate a variety of plug-ins.

“It has enough bandwidth for all your audio signals,” says Commare. “It has bidirectional analog and HD for monitoring video feeds, ethernet, plus facilities for up to four full-blown HD cameras, all on two strands.”

Telecast Fiber has also been recently used to implement HD digital signage in sports arenas in Denmark, but rather than take credit for that innovation, Commare says the end user should be applauded.

“It’s not anything new,” Commare explains, “It’s just people taking our existing product and finding a new way to use it.”
