Algolith Delivers Intellectual Property Cores for Altera’s 1080p Video Framework

Algolith has integrated high-quality
Intellectual Property (IP) cores into Altera’s 1080p video framework. The
Altera 1080p video framework allows broadcast systems designers to quickly
integrate Algolith noise reduction or de-interlacing technology into Altera Cyclone
and Stratix series FPGAs. Algolith will demonstrate this solution in
Altera’s booth at the 2008 IBC Show in Hall 10,
Stand A10.
Algolith noise reduction
technology is recognized as best-in-class for removing Discrete Cosine Transfer
(DCT) artifacts and various types of random noise including mosquito noise,
block borders, Gaussian noise and RF type noise. Algolith de-interlacing
technology is a motion adaptive technique for converting interlaced video to
progressive video before it is up scaled and displayed. The de-interlacer
offers both frame-based and per-pixel real time de-interlacing techniques. Both
Algolith noise reduction and de-interlacing technology support 480i to 1080i formats
and are SOPC Builder-ready to facilitate the integration of components into the
user’s system. SOPC Builder is an exclusive Altera Quartus® II design software
tool that eliminates the manual system-integration tasks of IP blocks in an
FPGA design.
"Algolith's video
processing IP cores address key challenges faced by broadcast system
developers" said Arun Iyengar senior director of Altera Corporation’s
communications business unit. "Leveraging Algolith’s IP and Altera’s video
framework, customers can quickly get access to the performance, power, and
density advantages of Altera’s 40-nm Stratix IV FPGAs.”
The Altera 1080p video
framework allows designers to rapidly develop high-performance video systems.
The framework enables easy mix and match of video IP from different sources
with the ability to customize and differentiate. The framework is based on an
open, low-overhead, interface called Avalon Streaming that can efficiently
handle both video and control data.
“Algolith is focused on
delivering core technology that will allow the rapid development of high
performance systems” said Jacques Patry, director of technology development at
Algolith Inc. “Our best in class modules fit into Altera’s framework making it
easy for designers to add customizations, or their own IP into larger more
powerful designs.”
