Quantel launches soft-Sam

Quantel launched a brand new
option named soft Sam at IBC 2008 that will bring significant connectivity and
workflow boosts to owners of standalone Quantel eQ, iQ and Pablo systems.
soft-Sam allows third party systems transparent access to the Quantel disk
store. This means the Quantel operator can use other tools and media from all
sorts of different applications within a project without the need to move or
copy media – saving time and speeding workflow. For example, these could be
files rendered on Fusion, or models from a 3D system, written directly onto the
Quantel framestore.
In this way, soft-Sam brings
some of the key workflow benefits of Quantel’s Genetic Engineering shared
workflow technology and its Sam data server to the eQ, iQ or Pablo owner,
making them available on a part-time basis – when the system is not in use for
its primary creative purpose – typically in down-time during work breaks or
outside working hours.
“Post today is all about integrating lots of different toolsets to get the
right result in the most efficient way,” said Steve Owen, Quantel Director of
Marketing. “soft-Sam makes it really easy to integrate a huge variety of
different tools into the Quantel workflow.
“soft-Sam also greatly increases the contribution of Quantel systems to the
facility’s overall productivity and workflow. It effectively turns an
investment in a single eQ, iQ or Pablo into two machines – one of which can
carry on breaking workflow bottlenecks in downtime, while concentrating fully
on creative, chargeable work in working hours,” Owen concluded.
