T-VIPS demos JPEG2000 backhaul tech at NAB Apr 11, 2008 - 8:48:00 AM

T-VIPS will demonstrate T-VIPS Connect at NAB, its management solution for sports and news projects involving multiple venues and occasional traffic. As well as monitoring equipment status, T-VIPS Connect also checks the health of backhaul connectivity and service status. This solution is ideal for sports and news operations, as it simplifies the task of setting-up and tearing down the occasional networks that are so common in sports and news backhaul.

“Because sports coverage contains high-speed motion with rapid scene shifts and lots of camera movement, it maximizes stress on compression schemes,” says Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS. “In addition, the high value of much sports content means it is more important than ever that the television signal is enjoyed by the consumer at the highest quality and with the minimum delay.”

T-VIPS currently provides systems for the delivery of UK Premier League soccer to Scandinavia, the transport of ice hockey programming within Sweden and Finland and has a number of backhaul systems live in the USA. T-VIPS has also been involved in many occasional broadcast and news projects, including the contribution of mission critical spacecraft docking video on behalf of the International Space Centre.

“Sports ccontent is often broadcast on a large number of channels in many geographical regions as well as over mobile TV networks and streamed over the Internet,” says Dolvik. “This requires a source signal that is suitable for editing, format conversion and transcoding. This is exactly what our JPEG2000 solutions bring to the market.”

Features launched at NAB to specifically answer the needs of the North American broadcast market, include forward error correction for IP transmission of JPEG2000; ASI interfaces for the T-VIPS TVG 415/430 JPEG2000 Video Gateways; scrambling for the T-VIPS TVG 415/430 JPEG2000 Video Gateways; and connection management with T-VIPS Connect.
