Rohde and
Schwartz unveiled an array of new transmitters at NAB. The R&S Nx8300 UHF
transmitter is an air cooled medium-power transmitter, whose digital output
power is up to 1.8 in a single rack. The cooling concept offers six possibilities
of air intake and greatly reduces energy by 15 percent. The transmitter
supports ATSC standards as well as MediaFLO and A-VSB. A-VSB is the leading
proposed standard for mobile broadcast TV.
“A-VSB is a
signal frequency network that will be significant in building a mobile
broadcast network,” says Jack Cowper, Rhode and Schwartz President and COO.
Rohde and Schwartz is part of the A-VSB Initiative includes members Samsung,
MobiTV, Nokia Siemens Networks, and SES Americom. There are live demonstrations
of the platform in the A-VSB booth at NAB (Booth 1539).’
Rohde and
Schwartz announced a new medium power outdoor transmitter. The R&S NV8303VO
has an output power of 900W and also has a cooling system. Its compact
enclosure makes it a perfect transmitter for Mobile TV. “There is a migration
to smaller transmitters,” says Cowper. The outdoor transmitter is available in June
2008.
Rohde and
Schwartz have a new array of transposers. The R&S XLx8000 transposer makes
it possible to fill gaps or expand transmission areas.
Rohde and Schwartz also unveiled their new TV
analyzer for MPEG-2.
The GUI of the
R&S ETL TV analyzer makes it easy to use and several features speed up the
operation. Users do not have to enter frequency or channel bandwidth for each
measurement.
