Sports hits spot for MSpot

MSpot, a mobile radio services provider, today launched MSpot Sports, the nation s first all-sport radio service designed for cellphone users. The company currently has a deal to stream its radio content to Sprint PCS handsets, giving PCS users the chance to keep up on the latest scores and sports news for $5.95 a month.

Daren Tsui, MSpot co-founder and CEO, says sports has been one of the top talk-content genres, making MSpot Sports a natural. Sports fans are fanatics and they’ll go through many hoops to get what they want, he says. We also noticed that fantasy sports content is very popular.

Programming highlights include a deal with Sporting News Radio that will get the company s content in front of mobile listeners. Programs include Live Sporting News Radio, local live radio in more than 20 cities, and even sports celebrity talk shows and fantasy sports coverage.

For live content, we get a dedicated feed from the station which we encode
on the fly for mobile, says Tsui. We offer streaming servers as well as media players specifically designed for wireless.

The service also has on-demand content which is sent in from content providers via file-transfer protocol, HTTP or even Podcasts. Once we have the content, we encode it and put it up on our servers, he says.
