Quantel launches new products

Quantel is launching a new HD version of Newsbox and a faster SD/HD Paintbox on an all-new platform bringing TimeMagic technology to the graphics world.

The company says the new Paintbox is twice as fast as the previous version, and with the addition of TimeMagic, that speed redoubles.

This new Paintbox is half the size and twice the speed of its predecessor, says John Woodhouse, Quantel s Senior Product Manager – Broadcast. This technological achievement dramatically cuts production timescales – it s like having two machines for each designer. For broadcasters this means more output, more quality graphics and more viewers.

The new Paintbox also benefits from the new V3.5 software release, which adds a massive set of graphic focused developments including; completely new graphics shapes, blending modes, profile stretch, motion blur and loads of DVE and keyer enhancements. Equally important are the many updates in ergonomics and connectivity; an array of designer-led processes, support for even more file formats and Alpha channel support in QuickTime.

The new Newsbox is a complete, self contained news system that arrives tested and proven ready to go on air straight out of the box – making the transition to digital a painless, fast and immediately rewarding experience. Better still, Newsbox is available in both HD now and HD upgradeable configurations allowing broadcasters to better manage their HD investment. The HD models start at just $250,000.

Newsbox HD, like its sibling Newsbox, is an affordable, convenient, self-contained unit that comes with all that is needed to ingest material, view rushes, choose shots, edit stories, review finished pieces and play them out to air. Its common progressive user interface and toolset are exactly the same as all the sQ systems from Quantel that are powering the news operations of some of the world s greatest broadcasters.

Broadcasters have an established workflow and don t want to go back to the drawing board when they need to go digital or one stop further to HD, said Norman Rouse, Group Marketing Manager – News, Sport & Graphics. We have proved that the best workflow is the server-based collaborative workflow – it s the most effective, creative and fastest way to make news. Now broadcasters can take advantage of core Quantel technology to meet the increasing business needs for a future-proof HD strategy. With Newsbox you get the best of both worlds – HD now or HD upgradeable in the future.

The ability to work with HD material is designed into the very fabric of the Newsbox architecture. So whether broadcasters need HD now or have a clear future HD upgrade path, Newsbox HD is the logical choice. Also Newsbox now works with all the latest HD acquisition formats, from XDCAM HD and P2 HD to HDV. Whatever the format, Newsbox lets broadcasters of all sizes get a premium look without paying a premium price. Newsbox HD is available now.
