Ardendo to help ingest 200,000 hours of sports content for M-Net

Electronic Media Network Limited (M-Net), South Africa s first private subscription television service, and SuperSport, M-Net s eight channels dedicated to sports programming, have selected Ardendo solutions for the ingest and asset management of over 200,000 hours of existing and new content.

Using Ardendo s ARDOME for media management and archiving; DART for ingest scheduling; Ardenc for transcoding; Ardcap for ingest and play-out; EasyCut for browsing editing from standard PC s; Arvid as the video server and Precut for browse, cut and clip generation; M-Net and SuperSport will use the software for archiving, logging, inserting metadata, and performing basic editing on its extensive library of programming.

We were looking for a highly scalable, IT-focused system that will allow us to leverage our content across multiple distribution channels, such as IPTV and mobile platforms, in the near future, explained Dave Hagen, Head of M-Net Broadcast Services. Because of the strategic nature of this asset management functionality for our business, we looked at 17 vendors before selecting Ardendo. The Ardendo solution offered the most feature-rich solution, and is designed with the future in mind. The main user interfaces are easily accessible in a web interface, and it has an extremely open architecture conducive to improved accessibility and workflows.

Ardendo software is facilitating IBM middleware (TSM and DB2) and hardware (servers and storage) for this implementation.

Ardendo was recently acquired by Vizrt, the world’s leading producer of real-time 2D and true 3D graphics system for television. Vizrt acquired all outstanding shares of Ardendo in an all-share transaction in exchange of 2,912,790 ordinary shares of Vizrt, finalized on May 5th of this year.
