NRK opts for Riedel s digital artist

Norwegian Broadcast Corporation NRK chose
Riedel’s digital intercom matrix Artist as basis for its new intercom
installations. In a first step NRK equipped its main broadcast center in Oslo, the regional studio in Trondheim as well as the new HD OB van HD1
with Artist intercom installations. The system debuted in July 2006.

The new intercom solution of
NRK s headquarters in Oslo
consists of eight Artist 128 mainframes connected by a redundant dual ring
fibre-optic network to form a single non-blocking matrix of 600 x 600 ports.
For us the decentralized system architecture of the Artist platform was a
decisive factor, says Oddvar J. Paulsen, responsible system engineer with NRK.
The easy connection of the mainframes with fibre significantly reduced the
wiring expenses and thus the installation costs.

Beyond the cost factor the
platform offers unlimited routing options without any bottle-necks, said
Paulsen. The intercom system features about 150 LED control panels of Riedel s
Artist 1000 series as well as the integration of external 4-wire systems. The
new, extended version of Riedel s Master Control Room (MCR) Plug-In is added to
the intuitive configuration software Director to accommodate conferences of
panels, 4-wires and ISDN signals.

NRK also equipped the regional studio in Trondheim with Artist. An
Artist 128 intercom matrix serves as the heart of the installation which also
features Riedel s premium control key-panels Artist 1000.

Norway s national broadcaster also equipped their first HD OB van HD1 with
Riedel. The system is based on one Artist 128 matrix mainframe, Artist 1000
control key-panels and two Connect Duo ISDN codecs.

The switch over to the new infrastructure
was problem-free. The intuitive user concept and proven fibre technology of the
Artist system completely convinced us”, said Paulsen.
