‘Thin’ is in at MLBAM for audio encoding

Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) has signed a deal with Thin Multimedia to license the company’s thinMobile Platform to encode their audio content for mobile devices. The agreement expands MLBAM’s capabilities as a publisher of mobile multimedia services, enabling the interactive services leader to encode and deliver various streaming audio services to mobile users.

TMI’s thinMobile Platform is a device and network-independent content ingestion, management and delivery solution for content owners. It gives content owners a way to publish content on the major carriers that can take them to commercial launch in as little as four weeks. The company says its platform can also handle high-volume content ingestion and real-time encoding of audio and video content and can deliver both streaming and on-demand services. thinMobile Platform also performs content management and storage, dynamic electronic programming guide generation, and complex metadata management.

“We are pleased to help MLB advance their interactive strategy and deliver top-notch streaming audio services to mobile users,” said Dave Smiddy, director, content and carriers for TMI. “thinMobile Platform enables the encoding of a high quality content in real time with none of the latency or choppiness prevalent in previous mobile audio encoding services. It is a solution that lets MLBAM deliver mobile multimedia services to virtually any device via the major wireless networks.”

“We look forward to helping MLBAM create more streaming audio products for mobile users,” said Dave Smiddy, director, content and carriers, TMI. “MLBAM is one of the most forward thinking interactive entertainment companies and we are very pleased to have our thinMobile Platform support their mobile strategy and reach millions of mobile users with cutting-edge multimedia products.”
