RaceTech, which provides technology and equipment to horse racing courses in the UK, is now using a centralised software graphics system for on-screen information, including runners and riders, betting prices and results.
Based on Pixel Power’s Clarity 300 character generator, the system uses custom software developed by integration specialist iKnowledge, which was taken over by PA Sport in June of this year.
The single-channel, SD character generator and still store is being installed in six of RaceTech’s OB trucks and will be used to generate graphics for big-screen displays at race tracks, providing up-to-the-minute information and breaking news.
The technology is being provided to RaceTech by iKnowledge on a fixed contract as a complete package, including maintenance and upgrades. The software also enables RaceTech to tailor the information according to the location, which includes local advertising and sponsors’ logos and messages.
Commenting on the new system, RaceTech’s technical director, Mick Both, said, “Pixel Power and iKnowledge’s combined solution gives us the flexibility we need to change not only the information we broadcast at each venue but also our entire mode of operation. A simple connection to the internet allows reliable, professional content delivery from a central source removing the possibility of incorrect information being displayed.”
Kevan Moretti, co-founder and commercial director of iKnowledge, commented, “This is as big as it gets in terms of the delivery of outside broadcast TV graphics services. The complexities in terms of data handling, infrastructure provision, and the sheer scale of the day-in day-out coverage and production schedule make this the largest and most significant outside broadcast sports TV project in the UK.”
