Comcast taps Tony Werner as CTO

Tony G. Werner will join Comcast Cable as Chief Technology Officer at the end of December. Werner will be responsible for developing and guiding the company’s technology strategy and evolving network architecture, including supporting next-generation consumer systems and technologies, infrastructure and engineering, network integration and management tools and technical standards.

Werner succeeds David Fellows as Comcast’s Chief Technology Officer. Fellows announced his plans to transition into a part-time Executive Fellow role with the company earlier this year.

“Tony’s wealth of engineering and technology experience will be crucial as we leverage our fiber network and IP technology to deploy advanced, integrated services,” said Steve Burke, President of Comcast Cable. “He has unparalleled expertise and insights into the cable industry’s future network needs, and I’m delighted that he is joining our leadership team.”

Werner currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Liberty Global, Inc., in Englewood, CO, leading the company’s global strategy for video, voice and data services. He has more than 25 years of engineering and technical management experience, having held senior management positions with Qwest Communications, Aurora Networks, TeleCommunications, Inc. (TCI)/AT&T Broadband, Rogers Communications, Inc., and RCA Cablevision Systems.

A graduate of Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, MN, with a degree in Telecommunications, Werner will relocate to the Philadelphia area.
