Grass Valley embraces CMOS imaging

Sportscasters looking for improved HD imaging quality will have a new
option later this year when Thomson delivers cameras with a new CMOS
(Complementary Metal Oxide
Semiconductor) imaging sensor. The CMOS sensor is Thomson’s first ever,
with company execs promising to deliver 2.4
million pixels and other benefits to users of the LDK camera lineup and
the upcoming Infinity tapeless camcorder.

“The new sensor has a wider dynamic range, lowers power consumption reduced signal noise, and can support all formats, including raw 4:4:4 image capture,” says Jeff Rosica, Grass Valley SVP, marketing and technology.

Grass Valley is coy about full details of the sensor but they do say it is 2/3-inch in size and has 1920×1080 active pixels. Execs say all will become clear after the presentation of a paper at the ISSCC (International Solid-State Circuits Conference) on Feb. 11 in San Francisco.
