SportsCenter Minute meets need for speed

On Monday, Feb. 12 – the morning after SportsCenter celebrates its 30,000th episode – ESPN.com will introduce the SportsCenter Minute – an exclusive, online brand extension of the network’s signature news show designed to provide sports fans with a quick, comprehensive video digest of the day’s sports headlines, including highlights and scores. The SportsCenter Minute will be published on the home page of ESPN.com by 6 a.m. ET every day for consumption any time, seven days a week. The package will be sponsored and will vary in length dependent upon that day’s headlines.

“SportsCenter was revolutionary when it debuted in 1979 and continues to set the bar for sports news and information today,” said John Kosner, senior vice president and general manager, ESPN new media. “The SportsCenter Minute represents SportsCenter’s next-generation expansion and reflects ESPN’s dedication to serving sports fans on every available medium.”

The SportsCenter Minute will be an originally taped, produced and edited package featuring SportsCenter anchors and will be recorded after the conclusion of West Coast games each night. It will be featured on ESPN.com each morning. For Spanish-speaking sports fans, ESPNdeportes.com will feature a Spanish-language version of the SportsCenter Minute – titled ESPNdeportes.com SportsCenter – which will also debut on Feb. 12.

“The SportsCenter Minute is the perfect way for millions of sports fans to start the day at ESPN.com,“ said Kosner. “This exclusive content furthers our position as one of the most robust sports video providers on the internet. It also gives our advertisers an opportunity to have an integrated connection to ESPN’s most recognizable TV brand in a digital medium.”

At launch, the SportsCenter Minute will be delivered by the new AT&T.
