Avitech multiviewers help fans in stands keep on top of Super Bowl action

Avitech International Corporation, a leader in multi-image display processors announced that through Videoscope, a Miami-based Broadcast and Professional AV dealer and systems integrator, the Miami Dolphin Stadium has purchased their MCC-8004 line of multiviewers, for the in-house production of Miami Dolphins football, and Florida Marlins Baseball games. This investment is part of the Dolphin Stadium’s recent high definition production room upgrade, which now includes nine display groups for displaying a variety of SD and HD digital sources.

The MCC-8004 line of multiviewers is proving to be a popular choice when stadiums reconsider their video source monitoring activities, especially as they consider upgrading to HD functionality. The Avitech systems are designed to work in live production environments, offering key features such as; combining HD-SDI, SD-SDI and analog video sources as well as on-screen alarm indicators for video and audio status, exceptionally low power consumption, audio monitoring, and tally all while maintaining the correct aspect ratio whether it be 4:3 or 16:9.

The MCC-8004 line is now an integral component of the Dolphins production activities and offers them the ability to monitor a variety of HD-SDI and SD-SDI video sources on nine JVC 42” LCD displays. The sources include a variety of HD cameras, servers, and VTRs, in addition to a few SD sources. The application has been constructed using a Pesa routing switcher, and allows the UMD (under monitor display) on each image on the display wall to be dynamically updated when the router is switched. In addition, the Avitech modules easily integrate with 3rd party equipment allowing recall of multiple screen layouts.

“Our goal is to help the Dolphins improve their production capabilities,” states Dave Campbell, US Eastern Regional Manager, Avitech International Corporation. “Our multi-image display wall processors offer a powerful feature set as well as multi-definition support, so along with our innovative technology, we are glad that we could contribute in making sure their facility is well equipped.”

The entire monitor wall installation is controlled by the Cosmos Control Center – Avitech’s Graphical User Interface for configuration and editing of a Virtual Monitor Wall System. This software allows users to easily configure and edit presets on displays. Cosmos is also used to interface with leading routing switchers, production switchers, tally management systems for dynamic name changes and tally on the virtual UMD. Cosmos is a Windows based program that can run on any PC or laptop with Microsoft Windows XP or 2000. Cosmos has built in alarm and fault reporting capability, and when coupled with AviNET SNMP option, it becomes a very powerful control solution.

“We chose the Avitech multiviewers based on their outstanding level of quality,” comments Chad Messina, Director of Scoreboard Operations, Dolphin Stadium. “The display wall that we’ve installed has played an invaluable role in the way we construct our sports productions. Our operator can easily control the layout of sources and we’re not just presented with video, but so much more information such as; alarms and audio meters.”
