Avid launches Academin Partner program to assists colleges
Avid Technology has launched the Avid Academic Partner (AAP) program, a worldwide initiative designed to assist colleges and universities in preparing students for successful careers in the media industry. The AAP program delivers affordable, integrated Avid product offerings and courseware as well as the ability to achieve Avid-Certified Campus status. Additionally, participants in the Avid AAP program will be eligible for various faculty development grants and student scholarships, and the opportunity to have high-profile industry professionals spend a day on campus, courtesy of Avid.
“Avid’s commitment to educate students who are enrolled in media programs is having a direct impact on the quality and experience of those who are making their way into the professional world of digital content creation,” said Meri Weingarten, director of post production at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. “By providing access to a constantly-evolving curriculum and discounted industry-standard tools, the AAP program will not only enrich the experience for students who aspire to become professionals, but also arm faculty with the tools they need to improve the overall quality of education.”
The Avid AAP program is open to educational institutions that have Avid systems in good working order and offer one or more degree programs aimed at a career in the media industry. Participants in the program will:
— Have the opportunity to purchase specially priced Avid software, maintenance and training bundles;
— Have the opportunity to become an Avid Certified Campus. Certified schools will receive regular updates to the Avid curriculum to teach Avid courses and administer Avid Certified User exams;
— Be eligible to apply for Avid faculty development grants, student scholarships and internships;
— Be eligible to have high-profile, practicing media professionals spend a day on campus to interact with students, provide valuable insight into real-world creative and career choices and offer advice about how to prepare for the competitive job market; and
— Have exclusive access to Avid Curriculum support, including modules that offer best-practice teaching methods as well as samples of real-world use of Avid products. Basic and advanced Avid textbooks are also available. Students can also take advantage of discounts on Avid Training Services, which can help them augment their skills with industry-standard expertise.
“Academic institutions with media programs are shaping the future of the digital content creation industry,” said Patrick McLean, Avid’s senior market manager for Education. “Avid started the AAP program in Europe two years ago to provide educational institutions with the tools and resources they needed to successfully position their students with a competitive advantage in the job market. The success
we’ve experienced overseas has been tremendous and we are excited to roll out our new, updated worldwide AAP program.”
