Iconix intros HD POV camera

Iconix Video, a leading developer of advanced high-definition camera systems and maker of the world’s smallest professional quality HD video camera, today announced its new HD-RH1 digital I/O package and remote control system. Iconix Video will showcase this latest technology innovation at NAB 2007, April 16-19, from Booth SU11415 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The HD-RH1 incorporates an expansive array of features found only in top-of-the-line HD ENG and EFP camera systems while utilizing an innovative signal processing architecture. This POV camera system, which includes a very robust separate camera head and processing controller unit, is the smallest high performance HD camera in the industry. The lightweight HD-RH1 remote camera system is comprised of a 1.32″ x 1.50″ x 1.92″ POV camera head weighing 2.5 oz.; a 3.5 lb. universal HDTV controller unit measuring 8.4″ x 1.8″ x 12″; and a power supply, and can be ordered with 3, 6 and 10 meter cables.

Shipping of the HD-RH1 began in December 2006, and over 200 cameras have been sold since then. The HD-RH1 has already been deployed in a number of unique productions, including Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Thirteen”, National Geographic Television’s “Planet Carnivore” series, and many other documentary, film and television projects.

“We are very pleased to be able to introduce the digital I/O package and remote control system upgrades so soon after shipping our first cameras,” says Wayne Upton, CTO, Iconix Video. “The HD-RH1 is a high-performance POV remote camera system that augments and enhances the HD acquisition capabilities of broadcasters and cinematographers alike. Our new I/O package increases those capabilities with fiber optic outputs and direct camera genlocking, and the remote control panel allows seamless integration with video trucks and other remote set-ups. The potential applications are limitless.”

New HD-RH1 Digital I/O package:
As a factory-installed option to the already-versatile HD-RH1, Iconix is adding a new digital I/O package that will include the ability for fiber optic output directly out of the camera, and provide direct camera genlocking via an SDI or fiber optic serial digital source. The new I/O package will be demonstrated at NAB2007, and will be available for purchase with the HD-RH1 in June 2007.

The CCU will be outfitted with a receptacle that accepts industry-standard fiber optic SFP (Small Form Pluggable) modules. Iconix provides a twin-Tx module with the option package, which can be configured for either a twin single-link output, or a dual-link 4:4:4 output. These modules can also be swapped out for a single Tx, single Rx, or Tx/Rx transceivers, as well as other third party SFP modules.

The option package also offers the ability to genlock the camera to a serial digital signal, either SDI or fiber. An additional BNC connector is added to the CCU to accept an SD-SDI or HD-SDI sync source for providing precise, consistent, and repeatable digital synchronization, eliminating problems inherent with analog sync such as the need to pixel-adjust out offsets and ambiguity, multiple terminations, and unnecessary added jitter to the digital output.

With dual SD/HD-SDI connectors already standard to the HD-RH1, multiple cameras can be easily genlocked to a single SDI link by daisy-chaining the SDI inputs and outputs. For fiber users, the addition of a fiber Rx/Tx module will allow the camera to seamlessly transmit fiber and genlock to an incoming fiber serial link at the same time.

New Iconix Remote Control Panel:
In tune with the company’s mission to offer the industry with complete solutions, Iconix is announcing a new Remote Control Panel (RCP) for its video camera products. A prototype of the RCP will be shown at NAB2007, and it is slated for availability in August 2007.

Fully-featured and configurable, this RCP will be 14″-rack mount style, popular for use in video trucks and integrators. Specialized for use with Iconix cameras, it will have several new POV-style control features. The feature set includes:

* Control of up to six cameras from a single RCP
* Touch-screen LCD Graphic-User Interface for full menu and control access
* 12 dedicated and assignable encoder knobs
* Lens motor control, including Zoom, Focus and Iris
* Dedicated and user-definable buttons
* Full camera paint and feature control
* Upload capability of scene files to cameras
* Memory card interface for scene and setup storage
