Bexel intros fiber support vehicle; announces EVS info tour

Bexel Broadcast Fiber Services has launched the world’s first Optical Support Vehicle designed specifically for remote television production. The Bexel OSV’s preconfigured, broadcast-quality copper and optical I/O panels link all external cables to fiber-optic equipment housed inside a clean, stable environment – no matter what the conditions are on site. The vehicle’s flexible design also allows it to transport and integrate a full array of editing, server, tape and other broadcast equipment.

Scott Nardelli, Bexel’s broadcast fiber expert, conceived and built the OSV based on his years of experience managing complete optical production systems at nearly every premier sporting event and award show, as well as dozens of successful design/installation projects his team has completed at stadiums and broadcast facilities. The result: an ideal portable optical workshop that meets the rigors of remote production, with these highly advanced features:

32′ gooseneck trailer with 200 sf (24’x8.5’) of flexible work area • 400+ RU of configurable racks • Office space, built-in printer and fax • Configurable for SMPTE, expanded beam, military, and standard ST, SC and FC/APC optical connectors • External I/O capacity for hundreds of optical and copper connectors, including analog and AES audio, DT12, tally, data, and Ethernet • Complete optical, analog and digital audio/video test equipment • 300 amp power via dedicated tech and utility circuits • 27,000 BTU of cooling

In other Bexel news, Alliance Digital and Bexel Broadcast Services have teamed up to offer demonstrations of Avid-EVS server-based tapeless workflows, tailored especially for live broadcast producers. The first in a series of several regional events was held last month at the Alliance Digital showroom in Manhattan and featured five 60-minute demo sessions, Q&A, practical field tips from expert field engineers, and plenty of audience participation.

This series, which will travel to Chicago, Los Angeles and other major production centers in the coming weeks, resulted from a collaboration that Alliance and Bexel entered into late last year. The two separately owned companies have also provided integrated Avid-EVS systems to networks covering the NBA All Star Weekend in Las Vegas, the World Figure Skating Championships in Japan, and have several more large and medium sized projects already lined up for the coming weeks. Bexel says interest parties should call (214) 905-5028 to arrange a private session or find out more about the upcoming schedule.
