Interleague Play draws nearly 37,000 fans per game

The first
segment of Interleague Play drew an average of 36,704 fans per game, as
1,541,585 fans attended the 42 Interleague games over the weekend. The average
of 36,704 fans per game marks a 22.7 percent increase over the current
intraleague average of 29,904 fans per game.

Overall this season, Major League Baseball has drawn 19,603,880 fans over 646
dates for an average of 30,347 fans per game, which is 4.1 percent higher than
at the same point during the recordbreaking 2006 season, when 76,042,787 fans
attended. Major League Baseball has set its overall regular season attendance
record in each of the last three seasons (2004-06).

Weekend attendance highlights included the following:

All three games between the Dodgers and the Angels were sold out for a total
of 133,023 fans, the biggest three-game set at Angel Stadium since its 1998
renovation.

The Mets set a record for a three-game series at Shea Stadium by hosting
168,912 fans for its Subway Series against the Yankees.

The Giants and the Athletics played to capacity crowds of 35,077 at

Oakland’s McAfee Coliseum
each game this weekend.

The series between the Twins and the Brewers attracted 128,305 fans to

Milwaukee’s

Miller

Park.

The series between the White Sox and the Cubs drew 123,139 to Wrigley Field.

A total of 123,003 fans went to

Comerica

Park to see a rematch of the 2006 World
Series between the Cardinals and the Tigers.

The Red Sox extended their streak of consecutive sell-outs at

to 330 in hosting the Braves.
