Lenovo runs the court in the NBA

Lenovo PCs have flawlessly supported all courtside and behind-the-scenes operations throughout the entire 2006-07 NBA season, and served as the backbone to the NBA’s most technologically advanced season yet.

“The global Lenovo team has achieved a winning season through its commitment to teamwork, excellence and service,” said Michael Gliedman, senior vice president and chief information officer of the NBA. “From collecting data in real time during more than 1,400 games to the creation of the Lenovo Stat, Lenovo PCs have provided a platform for a more technologically advanced game for generations to come.”

The introduction of the Lenovo Stat this season, a new plus/minus statistic that identifies the most effective combination of teammates, heralded a new era of NBA statistical analysis. Available on NBA.com and NBA TV after every regular and post-season game, the Lenovo Stat served as an innovative tool for coaches, players, scouts and fans.

“The NBA is highly focused on using technology to improve the game of basketball. Lenovo has collaborated with the NBA from the first tip-off of the season to the last point in The Finals to enhance the experience for fans, coaches, officials and players,” said Deepak Advani, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Lenovo. “The Lenovo Stat and Lenovo’s seamless support of all games showcase the reliability and best-of-breed thinking offered through our technologies and by our people.”

Lenovo PCs were used in each of the NBA’s 29 arenas to power this season’s games, including ThinkPad X60 Tablets to collect statistics; ThinkPad T60 notebooks to help control the public relations display and provide referee remote support from game-to-game; and ThinkCentre M52 desktops to support the Stats Gateway and allow referees to review instant replays and video.

As the Official PC Partner of the NBA, Lenovo computers recorded more than 275,000 points, 140,000 rebounds, 59,000 assists and 70,000 foul calls this season. For the fans watching at home, Lenovo ThinkPad touch-screen tablet PCs recorded more than 675,000 statistical events this season in real time, supporting the NBA as it relayed them to NBA.com, the league’s 30 team Web sites, NBA TV and thousands of media around the world.
