USC Selects YesVideo to Digitize Athletic Video Library

USC Athletics
and YesVideo announced that the entire USC Athletics video library will be
transferred to digital. The objectives of this project are to transfer all
recorded athletic content to digital files that can be easily accessed and to
protect this historic media from degradation. The USC Athletics video library
is comprised of multiple media formats and includes recorded athletic events
dating back to the 1930s.

The
collection includes competitions from their football, basketball, baseball,
track & field, volleyball, and other sports programs. The USC game library
was stored on thousands of professional format videotapes and over 1.5 million
feet of movie film. YesVideo will index the games and convert the video and
film libraries to MPEG-2 digital video files. These digital video files will
then be rendered to hard disc drives for easy electronic access and authored on
archive-quality gold DVD media.

“We
are excited to bring our video and film libraries of athletic events into the
digital age,” said Tim Tessalone, Sports Information Director, from USC.
“This collection of memorable sporting events has accumulated over nearly
80 years of footage and has been stored away on original vintage media formats.
By converting these assets to a standard digital format, these priceless
moments are being preserved for generations and organized for easier
accessibility.” USC is planning to make the digitized files available to
their fans and alumni in a soon-to-be-announced major Internet venture.

YesVideo
combines the latest in video and automation technology with the highest level
of quality control to ensure successful transfer of these historic events to
digital. In addition to inclusion of titles with the game files, YesVideo will
also automatically scan the content for natural chapter breaks. These chapter
breaks will be used to create visual menus on the DVDs that allow quick and
efficient searching within the game.

“We are pleased that
USC Athletics has selected YesVideo to process their priceless video collection,”
said Gregory Ayres, Chief Operating Officer of YesVideo. “The handling and
processing of aging media content takes specialized skills and care. Such a
project is typically very tedious and expensive. In order to make this project
cost effective for

USC,
YesVideo will take advantage of its automated technology in the conversion to
digital.”
