Alex Rodriguez named Sharp Player of the Month

Eleven-time
American League All-Star Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees has been named
Sharp Presents the American League Player of the Month for June.

In 27
games this June, the two-time A.L. Most Valuable Player batted .406 with 39
hits in 96 at-bats. He led the league with a .781 slugging percentage, nine
home runs, 28 runs scored and 34 RBI. Among his 18 extra-base hits last month,
nine were doubles. He walked 18 times and had a .500 on-base percentage.
Rodriguez was 9-for-13 in a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.

To date,
Rodriguez is hitting .327 with 28 home runs and 79 runs batted in. This is
Alex’s second Player of the Month Award this season (April), his fifth as a New
York Yankee and the ninth of his career – the most among American Leaguers.

Chone
Figgins of the the L.A. Angels of Anaheim was the runner-up in voting this
month. Figgins hit .461 for June with 53 hits, 23 runs and 14 stolen bases.
Other players receiving votes were Ichiro Suzuki (.427, 47 hits, 18 runs, 9
steals) of the Seattle Mariners, Magglio Ordo ez (.421, 40 hits, 21 runs, 19
RBI) and Carlos Guillen (.338, 4 2B, 6 HR, 22 RBI) of the Detroit Tigers,
Victor Martinez (.349, 11 2B, 5 HR, 19 RBI) of the Cleveland Indians, Orlando
Cabrera (.385, 42 hits, 2 HR, 22 RBI) of the Angels, and Marlon Byrd (.398, 39
hits, 19 RBI, 18 Runs) of the Texas Rangers.
