Horizon League Announces New Hirings and Promotions

Horizon League Commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced the hiring of three new staff members to the League office, as well as the promotion of a fourth.
Joining the League office staff are Tom Symonds as Assistant Director of Communications; Brandy Ingles as Championships, Compliance and Communications Assistant; and Pam Davis as Administrative Assistant for External Operations.
In addition, Nate Flannery has been promoted to Coordinator of New Media and Technology.
Symonds (pronounced SIMM-onds) joins the staff following one year as a communications assistant at The Big East Conference office in
Providence,
R.I.
He will serve as the League’s primary media contact for the sports of volleyball, women’s basketball, softball, and indoor and outdoor track and field.
At the Big East office, Symonds was the communications contact for volleyball, baseball and cross country/track and field.
He also assisted with publicity for the conference’s football and men’s basketball programs and helped maintained its official web site. Symonds previously interned with the Detroit Lions media relations office from 2005-06.
A native of
Medina,
Ohio, he graduated from The Ohio State University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in history.
Ingles (pronounced ING-uhls) spent the past year as the compliance and championships intern at the Western Athletic Conference office in
Englewood,
Colo. In her new position, she will assist with championships operations for all sports; serve as the primary media contact for cross country, swimming and diving, and tennis; and assist League institutions with compliance and legislative issues.
Prior to joining the WAC staff, Ingles served as a law clerk for Walentine, O’Toole, McQuillan & Gordon in her hometown of
Omaha,
Neb. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the
University of
Nebraska in 2003 and a juris doctorate from its
College of
Law in 2006.
She was admitted to the Nebraska Bar in September 2006.
Davis
spent the past 14 years as a teacher assistant and computer instructor at
Center
Grove
Elementary School in
Greenwood,
Ind.
A native of
Terre Haute,
Ind., she will serve as the front-office receptionist and will provide administrative support to League office staff in the areas of marketing, communications, men’s and women’s basketball scheduling and men’s basketball officiating.
Flannery, who has been Assistant Director of Communications for the past two years, now will work specifically with the Horizon League Network (HLN), the League’s comprehensive broadband video service. Among his duties will be coordinating live event production, editing on-demand highlight and feature segments, and developing new media applications for Horizon League content.
In addition, he will coordinate the office’s in-house technology, including systems and software management.
A native of
Valparaiso,
Ind., Flannery earned a bachelor’s degree in history from
Indiana
University in 2004 and worked as a media relations intern for the Indianapolis Indians Triple-A baseball club prior to joining the League office staff.
