Pappas Telecasting Companies Switches to Harris Corporation OSi-Traffic Broadcast Solution

Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been selected to provide its Harris(r) OSi-Traffic solution to Pappas Telecasting Companies, one of the largest commercial television station groups in the United States. Based in

Visalia,
California, Pappas owns 27 television stations and operates four others with network affiliations including FOX, The CW, ABC, CBS, and MyNetworkTV, plus several Spanish independent stations branded as “TuVisi n.”

Pappas will switch from a competitor’s traffic system to the Harris feature-rich OSi-Traffic solution to centralize the broadcast advertising traffic and accounting operations for most of its stations at the company’s new

Fresno technical operations center. Switching to an industry-leading, next-generation advertising traffic platform provides Pappas a competitive edge to manage its stations more efficiently and maximize resources.

“OSi-Traffic provides Pappas tighter control over every aspect of its group-wide traffic operations, and the tools to run a more efficient, seamless operation for greater profitability,” said Ed Adams, vice president and general manager of Harris Software Systems, North American Media Division. “We’re excited to have Pappas Telecasting Companies as the newest member of our OSi family.”

According to Dennis J. Davis, president and chief operating officer of Pappas Telecasting Companies, “We are pleased to form this beneficial, long-term relationship with Harris. We look forward to working with their OSi team to create the most efficient, streamlined and traffic operations possible, and we are excited about the savings this new efficiency will bring.”

As part of the company’s overall ONE initiative to provide one source for interoperable broadcast workflow solutions, Harris has introduced a range of new solutions that enable broadcasters to create new revenue models, improve customer workflows and reduce the cost of operations. For example, OSi-Traffic provides broadcasters with the unique ability to seamlessly integrate with Harris-supplied broadcast automation solutions as well as those of third-party companies a capability Pappas considered critical for its station group going forward. Another feature that appealed to Pappas is the ability of OSi-Traffic to support a centralized traffic structure across an entire TV station group with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.

This is accomplished by leveraging the power of a relational database that coordinates the demands of multiple stations, with multiple channels, operating in a consolidated environment. OSi-Traffic also enjoys a successful track record of customer service that is highly customer-centric, which was a key point in the sale to Pappas Telecasting.

Pappas joins a growing number of station groups that have adopted a centralized traffic operations model based upon the OSi-Traffic platform, enabling them to contain their operating costs and increase efficiency for a healthier bottom line.
