Virgin America and San Francisco to Honor Barry Bonds

Virgin America will join the City of

San
Francisco and Mayor Gavin Newsom to honor Barry Bonds
historic achievement of breaking the home run record and becoming the new
all-time home run leader.

“As
the only San Francisco-based airline, we are proud to be a part of the
celebration of one of our greatest hometown assets — Mr. Barry Bonds,” said
Fred Reid, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin America. “The City of

San Francisco and State of

California
played a major role in getting Virgin America off the ground, and we want to be
front and center for this historic moment in

San Francisco history.”

“Barry
has risen above all adversity to prove that he is one of the greatest athletes
in history. His talent is undeniable. As Barry takes his place in history, it
is an honor for

San Francisco
to be a part of that history. We look forward to celebrating Barry’s great accomplishment
with Barry’s family, the Giants and the fans,” said Mayor Newsom.

Renel-Brooks
Moon, Giants public address announcer, will serve as emcee for the celebration
featuring Barry Bonds and his family. Members of the public are invited to join
the celebration that will also feature Mayor Gavin Newsom, former and current
ballplayers, such as Hall of Famers Willie Mays and Willie McCovey, Giants
executives and broadcasters, and various celebrities.

The event
will open with the local band Wonderbread 5 playing on the main stage. A video
of baseball career highlights will showcase Barry’s career with congratulatory
videos to Bonds from such legends as Hank Aaron, Joe Montana and Michael
Jordan, among others. Virgin America is the lead sponsor of the event.
